How can we be sure it was really the mutants' fault anyway? I mean, we should know quite well how biased people can be in their reports and because our "victims" have already given a sob story and made the mutants out to be the villains, they can't exactly come forward and give their side or anything. They'll just be hung in the court of public opinion.

And it's not like their powers were anything that someone could give proof was really there. Levitation, looking like a lizard and super strength aren't generally things that leave a lot of marks and stuff, so isn't it possible that this is a big hoax?

Just because some prom queen and football star claim this everyone immediately believes them. No one will take the time to look more carefully. Who knows, Mr. Football Captain's mom might've put him up to it. She's one of those psycho mutant haters, too.

I just don't buy it that easily.

I'm late, obviously. I was supposed to come at the right time, but the move got delayed because grandma went and got sick so we flew back to Utah. She's just fine, but it's boring as hell there (poor grandma, right? At least she stays inside.) and really cold. Fog and ice and everything. Did I miss anything in classes? Shit, I hope not.

I'm Sebastian (Bastian) Channing. I don't really know anyone else, but hi and merry Christmas. I'm not going home for Christmas. I'm waiting for the thank-you cards from my relatives.

A sort of Christmas card. )

Sebastian was beginning to get the impression that not only was he avoiding his mother, but she was avoiding him.

It had turned into a dance with few words exchanged, both preferring instead to slip out of the room before the other might possibly stop them. When they caught each other, as mother and son, there was a stifling requirement to greet the other. Both might have been more comfortable with Sebastian glaring and Elaine giving him "this is for your own good" looks that mothers are so good at.

Sebastian also noted that for his father's part Lawrence didn't want to touch the subject. He would placidly allow Elaine and Bastian to scurry into rooms to keep out of one another's way. Maybe he thought it was better than actual fighting. He was a very resilient man, much like his son.

In passing him through the hallway Lawrence was prone to clapping Sebastian on the shoulder and saying "Son." in a vaguely, partially fond way before continuing upstairs to catch the news, much like it always had been. Either way, neither parent wanted to bring up the whole mutation and the fact that soon Sebastian would be at a boarding school full of mutants. There were high hopes that he would return to them fixed, not with a group of friends who would encourage his behavior.

Sebastian found himself resigned to his fate, and any faux haunts that had been so prominent since the announcement came to a tired halt for the week.
